Bone loss in the jaw can have negative health effects and can prohibit patients from receiving necessary procedures like dental implants.
A bone graft can restore your jaw, prevent future problems, and prepare you for other desired procedures.
Patients throughout the Lakewood, CO, area come to Colorado Premier Dental to receive bone grafts from Dr. Brian J. Polidori.
Dental Bone Grafting Basics
During bone grafting surgery, Dr. Polidori places grafting material in areas of the jaw where bone loss has occurred. He can transfer tissue from a part of your body that has more than enough bone, or use outside tissue replacements like a synthetic substitute.
The tissue placed during a graft creates necessary support for your bones and stimulates your body to create new, healthy jaw tissue. The formation of natural bone in areas where bone loss had occurred helps prevent oral deterioration and allows our Lakewood patients to receive the restorative procedures they desire.

Why You Might Need Dental Implants
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth with powerful artificial tooth roots that can support dental restorations like bridges, crowns, or dentures. Dr. Polidori is a board-certified implantologist, which means he has the elite skill and extensive experience to properly place implants.
Reasons Lakewood patients come to Dr. Polidori to receive a bone graft then implants include:
- Implants provide the highest level of stability for restorations like dentures, bridges, and crowns.
- Typical restorations struggle with wear and tear and need to be replaced, while implants are permanent.
- Implants protect your jaw and prevent damage to your bone structure that can occur after tooth loss.

The Colorado Premier Dental Difference
We make sure we have cutting-edge technology to continually provide optimal dental care. For example, we use a 3D computed tomography (CT) scanner. This device provides incredibly accurate imagery of our patients' jaws and tooth roots, allowing Dr. Polidori to perform effective bone grafts and implant placements. Issues that lead to the need for bone grafts, like gum disease, are similarly treated with advanced technology.
Dr. Polidori hones his skills at one of New York's top dental offices before taking his talents to Lakewood. His dedication to continuing education has led him to earn several fellowships and achievements, including board-certified diplomate status as an implantologist. His colleagues recognize his immense skill and have nominated him as a "Top Dentist" in 5280 Magazine many times over.

We Offer Several Sedation Options
Bone grafting can be performed without putting a patient to sleep, however many patients prefer sedation. We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, each of which can be tailored to your needs.
Recovery After Surgery
Most of our patients can return to work or school the day after they receive grafting. Some take an extra day or two off depending on their sedation choice. Some soreness in the bone grafting area is normal and can be managed by following Dr. Polidori's prescriptions.
In just a week or two, most patients feel completely back to normal. That being said, it typically takes anywhere from three to nine months for bone graft healing to occur in full, allowing you to receive dental implants.
